Press or walk on the carpet to adhere it to the wood surface. Tape neighboring pieces together with 2 to 3 inch masking tape or as directed by the manufacturer. It just needs something in between.

Install carpet pad so that any seams will be at right angles to those in the carpet. There will be way to much flex and give even with plywood. Place the piece of carpet adhesive side down onto the wood surface. Use a staple hammer tacker to fasten the carpet pad against the edge of the tack strip.
