With white chalk make a line about 3 4 the width of the overlap or about 1 3 4 inches from the edge of the carpet and then cut along the line. Make sure that you match the nap on the pieces of carpet being seamed together.

Unroll the two pieces of carpet you are piecing together so they are laying side by side.
